The Rev. Scott Monson Called as Priest-in-Charge

January 1, 2012

Fr. Scott Monson

Dear Members and Friends of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church – Basswood Grove:

The Vestry is most happy to announce that our discernment process is at long last completed.  We have called Father Scott Monson to be  Priest-in-Charge at St. Mary’s and he has accepted our call to ministry in our parish.

Father Monson’s education includes a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College, a BS  from Minnesota State University–Mankato, and a Master of Divinity in Parish Ministry from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary.  He is currently working on a Master of Liberal Studies degree at the University of Minnesota.  He served at Episcopal Divinity School in Boston, MA as personal assistant to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who was a visiting professor at the school.  His parish ministry includes 6+ years as Rector of Christ Church in Austin, MN, and recently as Priest Associate at St. Paul’s Church on-the-Hill in St. Paul, MN.  Father Monson has a strong skill set in preaching the Gospel of Christ and a commitment to pastoral care of people.  He has a strong interest in faith formation of children and youth, as well as adult forums and education.  He is looking forward to meeting parish members and developing our gifts around the mission of the parish.

Father Monson was the unanimous, first choice of the interview team, which consisted of Karon Joyer, Gurtie Berkner, Christine Hitchcock, and Jim Wallace.  The team felt that Father Monson was an excellent candidate and that his qualifications will provide the leadership and ministry St. Mary’s desires at this time in our spiritual growth as a parish.

Father Monson will start his ministry at St. Mary’s at a 9:00 a.m. mass on January 22.  Please join us in welcoming Father Monson to our community with one of our traditional, spectacular potluck brunches on January 22.  The brunch will begin immediately following our annual meeting.

May your New Year be a happy and blessed one!

Maureen Otwell, Senior Warden; Karon Joyer, Junior Warden; and Vestry Members: Lauren Cran, Rod Joyer, Sue McMahon and Linda Wallace
